Quiz 1:  Oral Exam, 27 October 2008

Each oral exam will be twenty minutes.  The oral exam will be based on one of the questions below.  You can select the question; notify KRC of your question by Friday 24 October 2008.

Question 1:

Discuss the production of ²³⁸Pu.  Include data needed to calculate production rates, origins and limitations of the data, and factors that can impact the production.

Question 2: 

What are the impacts of chemistry upon radioactive decay chains in equilibrium?  Include speciation and redox chemistry.

Question 3: 

Describe the PUREX process.  What are the fate of U, Pu, and fission products in the process?

Question 4:

What is the relationship between inorganic and radiochemistry?

Question 5:

Utilize half life data to determine useful parameters for an experiment with ⁹⁵Zr (i.e., detection limits, ⁹⁵Zr concentration, daughter isotopes and possible interference)
